The Quantified Self
In this studio, we’ll explore the process of learning more about the self, including the mind and the body, through sensors, experimentation, and data collection. Our goal will be to design experiments that tell us more about ourselves — how we move, how we think, and how we behave on a day-to-day basis. Our goal is to take inspiration from the series of personal experiments that people have done and craft our own investigations over the course of the two weeks.
Michael Nagle
Co-Founder of Sprout & Co.
Michael is passionately interested in how people learn and how to facilitate learning. His own interest in the human body came from a three month investigation he conducted, resolving a long-standing chronic issue that had kept him from reading or using a computer for a number of years. Since that event, he has been interested in the ideas behind personal medicine and individualized metrics — the ideas and tools needed to help people better care for themselves. In that vein, he has conducted the Boston Quantified Self group (http://www.meetup.com/bostonQS) to better understand the growing phenomenon of personalized health. His day-to-day work is in helping run Sprout & Co., a non-profit in Somerville, MA dedicated to the work of making science a cultural activity.
