Super Film

Session 3: July 30-Aug 10, 2012

It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s . . . your own superhero video! In this studio, you’ll create your own trailer or short film by learning about the craft of filmmaking. You’ll launch your ideas from storyboard to screenplay, become a cinematographer and a film editor, and add a music score and sound effects — culminating in your own onscreen masterpiece! In the process, you’ll learn about translating a static 2D comic into fluid moving pictures and about cutting-edge 3D techniques like those used in Avatar (2009) and Hugo (2011). We’ll also discuss live action vs. animated films; superheroes in each of the action, fantasy, and science fiction genres; diversity in superheroes (of color and of women); as well as superhero parodies.
